Call picks in seniority order. Your turn, your pick — no paper.
OnCallPick replaces the paper call sign-up sheet. Your unit picks on-call dates in seniority order, right from any phone — no double-booking, no chasing people down, no lost sheets.
- No download needed
- Free for every nurse
- Built by a nurse
The paper sheet, without the paper problems
Paper sign-up sheets get lost, get written over, and stall when the next person is on their day off. OnCallPick runs the same seniority system your unit already uses — it just keeps the round moving.
The manager sets the list — once
Enter your staff in seniority order. Add a name, move someone up or down, remove anyone who leaves. That's the only setup there is.
Each nurse picks on their turn
The board always shows who's up. On your turn you see only the open dates — taken dates and holidays aren't shown, so a double-booking can't happen. Pick a date, or PASS and the turn moves on.
The board fills itself
When the round reaches the end of the list it starts again at #1. When a month fills, the next month opens on its own. The manager can print the finished calendar for the wall.
Run a round in 30 seconds
This is a small demo board with five nurses. Play the nurse whose turn it is: tap an open date to pick it, or press PASS. Watch the turn move down the list — exactly like the real board.
Demo Board — December 2026
Sample names. In the real app, this is your unit's own list.
The nurse whose turn it is never sees a taken date. What's already picked simply isn't on their list — that's what makes double-booking impossible.
Any time before your round ends, you can go back, change your pick, or switch to a pass. When the round ends, picks lock.
Don't need a date this round? One tap passes your turn to the next nurse. Nobody waits on anybody — the round never stalls on a day off.
On the real board, each nurse opens the same link on their own phone and only acts when it's their turn. The manager watches the board fill — that's it.
Managers set it up. Nurses just pick.
One board link serves the whole unit. The manager's job takes minutes at the start; after that, the round runs itself.
You run the board
Set it up once, then step back. You only come back for fixes.
- Name your board — your unit, your call list.
- Enter the seniority list once, in order. Reorder or remove names any time someone joins or leaves.
- Share one link with your nurses. No accounts for them to create, nothing to install.
- Fixes when you need them: reset a month, correct the list, print the calendar for the wall.
- The Pro subscription is yours alone — $19.99/year for the board. Nurses never pay anything.
You just pick your date
No download, no sign-up, no cost. Takes under a minute when your turn comes.
- Open the board link on your phone. Add it to your home screen and it sits there like an app.
- See the whole board any time — who's picked what, and which dates are still open.
- When it says "Up next: YOU," open the Pick tab. You only see open dates — you can't pick a taken one.
- Tap a date — or tap PASS and the turn moves to the next nurse.
- Change your mind freely until your round ends. Then picks lock, fair and final.
The rules your unit already follows — enforced for you
Strict seniority rounds
Turns run #1 through the end of the list, one pick at a time, then loop back to #1. The order is the order — for everyone, every round.
No double-booking
A picked date disappears from everyone else's choices instantly. Two nurses can never end up on the same call slot.
Automatic holiday blocking
Holiday call dates — and the night before — are blocked by rule, every year, with no one having to remember to cross them out.
One-tap PASS
Skipping a round is a first-class choice, not a problem. Pass and the turn moves on — you come back in on the next round.
Give away a call — fairly
Plans change after you've picked. Offer your date back, and it goes to the team in seniority order — #1 gets the first chance, then #2, and down the list. Whoever takes it owns it. And if nobody takes it, it stays with you, so a call date is never left uncovered.
Months roll forward
When a month fills up, the next month opens by itself and picking order rolls straight through. No new sheet, no restart.
Print for the wall
Some things still belong on the break-room wall. Print the finished month's calendar any time — it matches the board exactly.
Custom blocked datesPro
Your unit, your calendar. Turn any built-in holiday on or off, add your own blocked dates — a facility closure, a unit event — and choose whether the night before is blocked too. Free boards keep the standard built-in holiday list.
Combined holiday picksPro
Some units take Christmas Eve and Christmas Day as one assignment. Bundle dates into a single pick, and the nurse whose turn it is takes the whole bundle at once — no picking one date and hoping the other is still open.
Custom shift timesPro
Not every unit runs the same call pattern. Set 24-hour call, run more than one shift per day, and use different patterns on weekdays and weekends. Free boards use the standard pattern.
Holidays stay on paper — and stay out of the way
Many units assign holiday call separately, and OnCallPick respects that. Holiday dates never appear as pickable — they're blocked by rule, for this year and every year after.
| Holiday | Rule |
|---|---|
| New Year's Day | January 1 |
| Martin Luther King Jr. Day | 3rd Monday of January |
| Presidents' Day | 3rd Monday of February |
| Memorial Day | Last Monday of May |
| Independence Day | July 4 |
| Labor Day | 1st Monday of September |
| Thanksgiving | 4th Thursday of November |
| Christmas Day | December 25 |
The night before counts too
For every holiday above, all slots on the holiday itself plus the night slot on the day before are blocked — so December 24, December 25, and December 31 never show up as picks in December.
On the board, those dates are marked "Holiday call — paper sign-up sheet" so nobody wonders where they went. The rule applies itself to future years automatically.
Two doors, same app
OnCallPick runs online right in your phone's browser — nothing to download. It's in pilot with its first unit now, and a Google Play listing is on the way for units that prefer an app store.
Online at oncallpick.com
Once your unit's board is set up, every nurse uses it the same way, on their own phone:
- Open the board link your manager shares with you.
- Find your name on the board — the calendar is always visible.
- Add it to your home screen (Share → Add to Home Screen on iPhone, or the ⋮ menu on Android) and it opens like an app.
- Pick when it's your turn. That's the whole routine.
Google Play
The same OnCallPick, packaged for the Play Store — free to download, with the Pro subscription ($19.99/year) offered inside the app.
- The developer account is set up and identity-verified.
- New Play accounts run a closed test first (12 testers, 14 days) — the pilot unit is the test group.
- After the test and Google's review, the listing opens to everyone.

How a manager starts
From your first email to a board your nurses are picking on — the whole setup, start to finish. It takes minutes, and you only do it once.
Get started
Email us during the pilot and we set up your board with you. (Self-serve signup comes at public launch.)
Name your board
Name your board after your unit — that's the name your nurses see at the top of the board.
Choose your call pattern
Standard, 24-hour, or custom times — pick the pattern your unit actually runs.
Type your staff list once
Enter your staff in seniority order — #1 = most senior. The list drives everything: turns, passes, and give-aways all follow it.
Review blocked dates
Major holidays are blocked automatically. Turn any on or off, add your own, choose the night-before rule, and bundle combined holidays (like Christmas Eve + Day) if your unit picks them together.
Share your board link
Share your board link with your nurses — they open it, find their name, and they're in. No app store, no passwords for staff.
Then it runs itself
Picks begin at #1 and run themselves. You step in only to fix mistakes — the round, the passes, and the next month all take care of themselves.
One small price — and only the manager pays it.
Free for every nurse, always. Pro is one yearly subscription per board — no per-nurse charges, no ads.
- Full seniority-round picking for your whole unit
- Automatic holiday blocking, every year
- Months that open themselves as they fill
- Give away a picked call — offered to the team in seniority order, and it stays yours if nobody takes it
- Seniority list editing, month reset, and print view
- Custom blocked dates — built-in holidays on or off, your own dates added, night-before toggle
- Combined holiday picks — bundle dates like Christmas Eve + Christmas Day into one pick
- Custom shift times — 24-hour call, multiple shifts per day, different weekday and weekend patterns
- Auto-renews yearly — cancel anytime, Pro stays active until the paid year ends
- Works the same online and in the Play app
Pro auto-renews at $19.99/year until cancelled. Cancel anytime — your board keeps Pro until the end of the paid year.
Staying on Free? Your board keeps the standard built-in holidays and the standard call pattern — the customization above comes with Pro.

What units usually ask
Does every nurse need to download an app?
No. OnCallPick runs online — each nurse opens the board link in their phone's browser. They can add it to their home screen so it opens like an app, but there's nothing to download and no account to create. A Google Play version is coming for units that prefer the store.
Do nurses have to pay?
Never. Nurses use OnCallPick completely free. The only cost is the manager's Pro subscription — $19.99/year for the whole board, with no per-person charges. It auto-renews yearly, and the manager can cancel anytime.
How does OnCallPick know whose turn it is?
The manager enters the staff list once, in seniority order. Turns run from #1 to the end of the list, one pick (or pass) at a time, then start again at #1. The board always shows who is up next, and a nurse can only act on their own turn.
Can two nurses pick the same date?
No. The Pick screen only offers dates that are still open. The moment a date is picked, it disappears from everyone else's options — double-booking isn't possible.
What if I pick the wrong date?
Any time before your round ends, you can swap your pick for a different open date or change it to a pass. Once the round ends, picks lock so the schedule can be finalized.
What if I need to give away a call I already picked?
Offer it back right from the board — no group-text scramble to find coverage. The date is offered to your team in seniority order, #1 first, then #2, and down the list. The first nurse to take it owns it. If nobody takes it, the date stays with you, so a call date is never left uncovered.
How are holidays handled?
Holiday call stays on your unit's paper sign-up sheet. OnCallPick automatically blocks the major holidays (New Year's Day, MLK Day, Presidents' Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas) plus the night before each one — in every year, without anyone setting it up.
Can we set our own blocked dates?
Yes — that's a Pro feature. The manager can turn individual built-in holidays on or off, add the unit's own blocked dates, and choose whether the night before a blocked date is blocked too. On Free, boards keep the standard built-in holiday list, blocked automatically every year.
Our unit combines holiday call — can OnCallPick do that?
Yes, with Pro. Combined holiday picks bundle dates into a single pick — Christmas Eve and Christmas Day is the classic example — so when a nurse's turn comes, they take the whole bundle at once instead of picking one date and hoping the other is still open. The same goes for shift times: Pro boards can run 24-hour call, more than one shift per day, and different weekday and weekend patterns, while Free boards use the standard pattern.
Does OnCallPick handle any patient or health information?
No — none at all. OnCallPick is a staff scheduling tool. It only deals with staff names (as the manager enters them), seniority order, and call-date picks. It is not a medical or telehealth app.
What happens when a month fills up?
The next month opens automatically and the picking order rolls straight through — no new sheet, no reset, no gap between months.
Who made OnCallPick?
A registered nurse who ran the paper process and got tired of it. OnCallPick was built for her own unit first — a trauma OR team piloting it for their December call list — and shaped by how real units actually pick call.
Privacy Policy for OnCallPick
What OnCallPick is
OnCallPick is a workplace scheduling tool that helps nursing units and other care teams choose on-call dates in seniority order. It is not a medical app and never handles patient or health information.
Information the service uses
- Board information entered by a board manager: the board (unit) name and staff names in seniority order, as the manager types them.
- Picks and passes: the call dates each staff member selects, or passes on, and the state of each round and month.
- Subscription information: the Pro subscription ($19.99/year, auto-renewing until cancelled) is processed by the app store (such as Google Play). OnCallPick does not receive or store your payment card details.
- Support email: if you email us, we receive your email address and the contents of your message so we can reply.
What we do not collect
- No patient, health, or clinical information of any kind.
- No location data, contacts, photos, or device files.
- No advertising identifiers — OnCallPick shows no ads.
- This website sets no tracking cookies.
How information is used
Board information and picks are used only to run your unit's call-picking board: showing the calendar, enforcing picking order, preventing double-booking, and blocking holiday dates. We do not sell personal information, and we do not share board data with third parties for marketing.
Who can see a board
A board is visible to the people the manager shares the board link with — normally the staff of that one unit. Please share board links only within your team.
Data retention and deletion
Board data is kept while the board is in use. A manager can reset a month or remove staff names at any time. To have a board and its data deleted entirely, email oncallpick@gmail.com and we will delete it.
Children
OnCallPick is a workplace tool intended for adults. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
